Building and Facility Beasley was built in 1966, on grounds that were originally part of the VA Hospital and Jefferson Barracks. In 1995, a nine-room addition was constructed that included a computer lab, art room and music room. Beasley is fully air-conditioned, handicapped-accessible and has an elevator.
Technology The school's updated computer lab has 30 networked computers with CD-ROMs and laser printers. Each classroom is equipped with four student computers. All are Internet-ready.
School Hours School starts at 8:45 a.m. and dismissed at 3:30. Students should not arrive before 8:35. (The Y.M.C.A. offers supervised before and after school care. Contact the Y.M.C.A. at (314) 843-6703.)
Student Absence Policy Remember it is the parent's responsibility to call in to school when your child will be late or absent from school. You may call at anytime, day or night. The ABSENCE LINE IS 467-5410. Please leave the child's name, your name, reason for absence, teacher and the phone number where you can be reached.
The following policies for absences will be in effect this school year:
1. If your child is going to be absent, you must call school on the attendance line; 467-5410. A reason for the absence must be included in the message. This is a ruling issued by the Department of Elementary and Secondary education. This is also for your child's protection so we know you are aware that your child is not in school. If you wish, you may leave the message the night before on the recorder. The school will contact you if your child is absent and we have not heard from a parent or guardian. Students may not call in their own absences.
2. If your child accumulates five absences in one quarter or is tardy five times in one quarter, the Mehlville District social workers will assist in resolving issues that may be keeping your child out of school. Arriving to school after the bell (8:45 a.m.) constitutes a tardy. Tardiness will be documented daily. Leaving before (3:30 p.m.) is also counted against attendance. Early departures will be excused for medical or dental appointments, but will be unexcused for sports practice, music lessons, etc.
A few more things you might need to know...
Signing your child in or out: In the event that you need to pick your child up earlier, please come to the office to sign your child out. We will call them to the office for you. Please do not go to the classroom as we are protecting instruction time and trying to keep interrutions to a minimum. If arriving late to school, you must come to the office to sign your child in.
Going home a different way: We are happy to accommodate your child in any way we can, as long as we have a note on file. If the student does not have a note he/she must ride the bus home or go home in whatever is their normal routing. There will be no bus passes handed out. All buses are near capacity and Transportation Department has issued a "NO PASS" policy for safety of the students.
Bringing your child to school: All doors are opened to students at 8:35am with full supervision provided. Please arrive after that to keep all of our students safe. Please be sure to follow the safety rules on the parking lot when dropping or picking up your child and remember to drive behind the school to the pick up/drop off zone. No child should be dropped off at the front of the building. This is for the buses to load and unload and could put the child at risk.
Any questions you may have, please call the office, 467-5400.
Dismissal/Arrival Policy Students who must leave school before the end of the school day must be signed out in the office by a parent/guardian before leaving the building. A student will not be dismissed directly from the class. Parents are urged not to go to the classroom without permission as this can disrupt instruction.
