August 2010,
Dear Beasley Families,
Welcome to the 2010-2011 school year! We hope you had a fantastic summer vacation and are excited to begin school on August 18, 2010. Our regular school hours are from 8:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Students are asked to arrive after 8:30 a.m. as we do not provide supervision of students before this time. If you are in need of before or after school care for your child, we offer service via our campus satellite YMCA program, 314-849-4668.
Nothing is like the first day of school! We invite you to our Back to School Bash on August 16, 2010 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. At this event you can say hi to your friends, see our new playground and visit your Beasley family. All students are asked to bring their school supplies and drop them off in their classroom so the first day of school will run smoothly! We encourage all of students to ride the bus the first day of school to help establish the daily routines. The teachers will meet their class when the buses arrive at school. We begin our first day of school with a school wide student celebration assembly to welcome everyone back! We will dismiss promptly at 3:30 p.m. in our front loop and we encourage parents to pick up in our parent pick up line behind the school library. You should receive a mailing with the drop off-and pick up information and the district bus routes. If you have concerns about your bus route, please call 467-5240 and our transportation department will be happy to help with solutions.
We have a wonderful cafeteria staff that will host your child for lunch each day. Your child may bring a sack lunch or purchase a hot lunch for $2.00. Extra milk and/or juice cost 0.50 cents. The district asks all parents to pre-pay into an account. Students may bring a check in any amount made out to the Mehlville School District to pay for lunches ahead of time. Be sure you place your child’s name and teacher’s name on an envelope and clearly state that the money is for LUNCH.
Don’t forget all immunizations must be current by the first day of school. Kindergarten students, 4th grade students and ALL new students must have a physical examination record on file. Please call our school nurse at 467-5430 if you have any questions.
On August 24, 2010, we will hold our “Open House/Curriculum Night” from 6:00-7:30 p.m. for grades K-5. On this evening, teachers will be conducting a formal meeting in their classroom to explain the curriculum, operation and procedures of their classroom for the year. We will have an open meeting from 6:00-6:30 p.m. in the gym. At this time, I will introduce myself and the staff. We will also have information from the PTO presented. If you are a parent, then you are automatically a part of the Beasley P.T.O.! Please plan to come and join in on our school fun this year!
If you have any questions or concerns here at Beasley, please do not hesitate to contact me at 314-467-5400 or by email at deanea@mehlville.k12.mo.us. Thank you for all of your support in making your child’s education a success. I am excited about our upcoming year of outstanding learning and my first year as Beasley’s principal!
See you soon,
Mrs. Andrea Deane, Principal |

School Hours
Regular school hours for Beasley Elementary are 8:45 A.M. to 3:30 P.M. Our AM ½ Day Kindergarten hours are from 8:45 – 11:50 A.M. For late arrivals or early outs please come to the office so we may check in and/or dismiss your child from the classroom. This procedure minimizes interruption of instructional time.
Early Dismissal Days
What are these? These are days that our staff collaborates and works with our school goals centered on the needs of our students. On these days our students dismiss early. Our school hours will be from 8:45-10:45 for our AM Kindergarten and 8:45- 1:30 p.m. for all other students. The dates for early dismissal days are: 9/16, 10/13,11/12,12/8,1/27,2/24,3/26 and 5/10. These dates do not include the early dismissal days for holidays. Please consider ways to provide care of your children on these days so your family may plan ahead. We provide an on-site YCARE program; please contact the YMCA branch at 849-4668 ext. 249 for information.
School Lunch
Our Beasley cafeteria is wonderful! We provide a nutritious breakfast ($1.00) and lunch ($2.00/$2.50 on branded pizza days) daily for our students. We serve our students with a pre-pay system so no students carry cash. Please send in money in a sealed envelope with your child’s name, teacher, date and the amount closed. If you have any questions, just give us a call.
Bus Riders
The school bus is the safest, most convenient way for our students to get to and from school. As always, NO BUS PASSES are granted for friends to ride home with each other, no matter what the circumstance. If you would like to pick up your child before dismissal, you must do so before 3:15 P.M. After this time, students will be dismissed as usual to the buses or library for parent pick up. If your child is to be a car rider, we must have this request in writing, otherwise your child will go home on the bus.

Calling All Volunteers
CALLING ALL VOLUNTEERS
Volunteering Opportunities for 2009/2010 school year
There are many volunteer opportunities throughout the year that allow you to get involved in your child’s school. You can volunteer at class parties or give ideas and time to our Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) or to chair a booth at the all school Fall Festival. There are also regular weekly volunteer opportunities for those who have the time. Three of our regular opportunities are:
Wednesday Envelopes: Every Tuesday and Wednesday mornings, volunteers collate school news and notes and place the papers in envelopes that go home with our children on Wednesday afternoons. The task takes about 1.5 hours each of the two days. The more volunteers we have, however, the quicker it goes. For more information, contact our newest secretary, Carolyn Garcia at 467-5412.
Publishing Center: Teachers place their orders in a file folder in the school office. Projects may include cutting out 40 elf hats, laminating a child’s artwork or sorting pages in a child’s school-year scrapbook. You can come in any day of the school week and any time during the school day to go through the file folder to see what needs to be done. You can work as little or as much as you want.
School Library; Tuesday and Thursday we have library time for all of our students. Our new Librarian, Alicia Montgomery, needs parents to help shelf books, check-out books, and help our students pick a library book. If this interests you, please call today! 467-5400.
